Visiting Santa

“What is this place?”

“It’s a store. You’ve been here lots of times.”

“I don’t remember...” said four-year-old Andrea.”

“They have it decorated now, for Christmas.”

“Is this where Santa lives?”

“No Honey, Santa lives at the North Pole.”

“It must be a big pole to have a whole house on it.”

“Yes, a very big pole... But Santa comes to all the towns, and stops at different stores to see the kids. We came here last Christmastime, but you wouldn’t go in.”

“Why not?”

“You said it smelled funny.”

“Oh.”

“Does it smell funny now?”

“No... it looks funny...”

“It’s decorations! Just like the ones we have at our house! Christmas decorations!”

“Our house doesn’t look so funny...”

“Well, we don’t have this many decorations.”

“I don’t like it.”

“Andrea! It’s just decorations! If we go in, you can see Santa!”

“Why?”

“Why what?”

“Why do I half to see Santa today?”

“Santa likes to talk to all the kids. He’ll ask you want you want for Christmas!”

“What if I was sick?”

“Do you feel sick?”

“No. But if I was sick, and had to stay home, how would Santa know what I wanted for Christmas?”

“I don’t know, but Santa always knows what kids want for Christmas, even if they don’t get to talk to him.”

“Ok. Let’s go.”

Mom turned to the store door.

“No, Mom, home!”

“But what about Santa?”

“You just said he already knows what I want, I don’t want to go in there,” she turned and started walking toward the parking lot.

After they got home, Dad asked how it went, “Did you actually see Santa?”

“Yes, I did!” Andrea said, rushing into her toy room.

“Through the window...” Mom added.

Dad shook his head, and laughed, “That’s our daughter!”
