A fantasy genre poetry contest Message List OPEN December 1 - 31 The Fantasy genre contains elements that are not realistic, such as magical powers, talking animals, etc. Fantasy is often characterized by a departure from the accepted rules by which individuals perceive the world around them; it represents that which is impossible (unexplained) and outside the parameters of our known; reality. Make-believe is what this genre is all about. What sets fantasy apart from other genres is it contains unrealistic settings, or magic, often set in an other-world past (e.g. a medieval universe), or possibly in the present-day real world (urban fantasy) but should involve magic and/or mythical beings as a primary element of the plot, theme, or setting. Something magical is almost always part of fantasy and magic may be seen in the setting or the plot or is practiced by the characters. 1st Place A Magic Words Merit Badge, A 25K Awardicon, and 25K GPs. 2nd Place A Magic Words Merit Badge, A 10K Awardicon, and 10K GPs. 3rd Place A Magic Words Merit Badge and 5K GPs Please note: if there are 5 or fewer entries only 1st and 2nd place will be awarded.
