You Can't Fool Me for Daily Flash

Sam Adams was a retired CIA operative living in Bangkok, Thailand. He would from time to time undertake secret missions for the Thai government or the USG on the side. He lived in Soi 44 near the legendary Soi Cowboy. He visited his favorite watering hole for expats, the “Cosmos Bar” almost every night to have a beer and meet with his fellow spies, counter spies, and criminal elements of the city.
He got to know the manager of the bar, Khun Lek, who was a middle aged Thai woman from up country somewhere. She knew something about Sam’s shady past and his involvement in the darker side of Thai culture and politics.

One day she confronted Sam after a local political was assassinated by a forang masked man on motorcycle. Khun Lek knew that Sam frequently rode a motorcycle wearing a mask as COVID was still a concern.

Putting two and two together, she got suspicious about Sam’s possible involvement in the murder. She had a personal connection to the murdered political leader who was her uncle in law as she came from a politically connected family up country.

When Sam came into the bar, she called him over, and said,

“Sam, don’t you dare lie to me. I know that you were involved with the assassination of Khun Slaike. You can’t fool me.”

Sam smiled, busted. He said,

“well what if I were? What’s it to you anyway?”

“Khun Slaike was my uncle in law and partner in this bar. I’ve inherited his estate.”

“is that so? Well he was a bad apple all around. I was contracted by some big hands to take him out. Nothing personal. Just business, you understand.”

‘Yeah, Sam I understand. You probably did the right thing, but remember you can’t fool me.”
