such a strong, self-sure woman
meeting all of life head-on
with a smile on her face
then the cancer crept in
silent blights in both breasts
she told the doctors, "Just take them both"
she didn't need them anymore
all her kids were grown
and so they did as she asked
but the cancer came back
and doctors had to cut even deeper
to get rid of the tainted flesh
she doesn't miss them though
she had always secretly thought
the things just got in the way
and she knows they were not what made her a WOMAN
but now she lives her life worried
for the remainder of her days
that this silent killer might just return one more time.
