Transition time again.
Now the dusk does court the night
offering sweet shadows to her beau.
Clad in softest ruffles of clinging, silken grey
a present from her lover, the slowly expiring day.

Silhouettes of Corvus caw and cry
Stark black absences of a deepening blue
Stand sentinel atop the claws of trees
As they scratch their signature in the sky

In the aggregate gloaming beneath,
Fledermaus flit, flutter, and fiercely forage
For gnats and flies, midges and moths,
Feasting in frantic flight through fading light.

Softer sounds, submerged in the busyness
And bright bustle of diurnal din
Subtly replace cacophony and clamour
With whisper, hiss drone and strum.

The dusk deepens to death as darkness
devours her shades, shadows and devotion.
Seduction suffers serious decay,
Night steals eventide's heart quite away.
