Life is What You Make It I was so tired I could barely walk to my door from the car. After three weeks on the Briers account, our boss, Jared had decided to go in a different direction! It was so obvious he only did it because his ex-girlfriend was on my team. Unfortunately, his father also owned the company, what could we do? That night we finally got the new proposal finished and ready for the next morning, that morning I should say, it was past midnight. Walking toward my door I could see a piece of paper on the stoop. Thinking it blew there, I went to pick it up. Arriving, I grabbed the paper, and at the same time, heard a small noise. I jumped, whipping around looking for it. There was a small bundle next to the bushes. The noise came again, from the bundle. Sneaking over, I lifted the scarf covering the bundle, there was a baby inside. Shaken, I realized the paper might be a note, it was, “Judy, take care of my son, Terry,” it said, “I will be back for him, soon!” and signed by my oldest friend Jane. I hadn’t seen her for years. Funny how life can change your perspective. Suddenly I was wide awake, suddenly the Brier’s Account was just work, and Jared wasn’t worth a hill of beans. Suddenly, I grew up. I took Terry in. I did my best for him while we waited for his mother to come back. She never did. We searched for years, we still do. His kids call me Grandma now. My favorite advice to people is this: If you want a happy life, decide on your own what’s important, and what’s not. Thanks to Jane, I’ve had the most wonderful life. I only hope she has too. |
