Ethan Brumfield wakes up to a strange and dark surprise. |
I fall While looking up at a azure sky filled with white clouds. The wind whistles in my ears as I gain more, and more speed. I had fallen for a long time, so I could only guess that I was hundreds of feet in the air. How I came to be in this situation eludes me, all I know, all I feel, is that I loss something precious, something I will never be able to get back. I tightly grasp something in my right and left hand, my body for some reason refused with all of its might to let these objects go. I upon further examination figured out that the objects I was holding on to so profusely was a black and white feather. Tears stream down my eyes as I look at the plumage in my hands, fluttering in the wind, and with utter grief I hear a voice echo in my head. "I'm sorry." I open my eyes to find myself on my bedroom floor. My body was in a cold sweat and I was breathing so hard that a person would have thought I had run a marathon. The look of surprise soon disappears from my face, and my breathing becomes steady and calm. This wasn't the first time I had experienced this dream, but never before was I this unnerved. I slowly sit up and with unexplained longing, look towards both of my hands, each holding nothing but air. The dream may have been over but the sorrow I felt remained inside my heart. "Ethan wake up, your going to be late for your first day of school!" The voice of my mother calling me from down stairs snaps me out of my train of thought. I had forgotten that today was my first day as a sophomore in high school and to tell you the truth I wasn't excited for it. The long summer break had finally come to an end, and along with it went all of the naps I loved to take during the day. I slowly stand on my feet and look all around my room. Trash was littered all over the floor, plastic cups stood all over the table, the two pillows belonging to my bed along with the black sheets and covers were thrown without care along my bedroom door. I was never good at cleaning up my room, but today even I had to say... "Dang my room is a mess." It didn't take me long to get dressed, I simply put on anything I could find lying around my bedroom floor. Today I decided to wear a white T-shirt, along with black jeans. I also put on my worn down black Nicky shoes that I've had since middle school. I then without wasting any more time opened my bedroom door and went into the bathroom to brush my teeth and comb my curly black hair, which I hated to do, but I had to show my mom I cared a little about my personal high gene. Their were only two good things about today, the first was that I had the bathroom all to my self. My little sister Jessica had already left for school. My sister goes to an elite private middle school, that only accepts the smartest students to attend, downside is that she has to wake up around 6:30 am to get ready, but in all truth and honesty she makes it work. The second reason is to embarrassing to tell, all I'm going to say is that it makes me blush. I looked at myself in the mirror as I brushed my teeth. It was hard to ignore the acne bumps and scars that littered my face, looking at a new acne bump always seemed to depress me even more. "They are coming." The A feminine voice says Right behind me. I turn around in fear and panic and see a black haired girl who looked to be around my age standing in the bathroom corner. The girl was wearing a black gown that Matched up well with her hair, and her skin was as white as freshly fallen snow. But what really drew me in was her eyes, which were crimson red, and her very presence that seemed to darken the very room even though I had turned on the bathroom light. The girls red eyes unlike mine, on the account of easily becoming shy, never wavered as she continued to stare at me with interest. Usually I would be happy, since this was the first time a girl had ever truly payed attention to me, but in truth it only made me worried. "Who are you?" I asked trying to act tough. Upon hearing my question the girl seemed to become a little upset, like I didn't have the right to ask a total stranger why they were in my house uninvited. "Y-you don't know w-who I am?" The strange girl asked while trembling with what I believed to be anger. It didn't take me long to realize I was wrong about the girls feeling, as a wide smile appeared on her pale white face, a smile that sent a cold chill down my spine. "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" The girl laughed with victorious glee. "You don't know my name!?" The girl asked with ravenous joy. "You don't know my name!?" The girl repeated, her smile never disappearing. I couldn't speak, I could barely move even a finger as two pairs of crimson eyes stared at me like a predator about to kill its prey. "You do not know, and I promise you I will never tell." The girl continues to speak as she glares at me threateningly "But I will tell you one thing." The girl turns away from me, completely hiding her face from view. "Their is no one I want to kill more than you." The girl says turning her face towards me ever so slightly, so that I could see a visage so filled with sick joy at the prospect of killing me. It would have made since to scream for help, or to run out of the bathroom or even put up my hands in order to fight this crazy person, but I didn't, even though my very instincts where shouting at me to do something, I couldn't. Why? I kept asking myself. Maybe because this chick is crazy and obviously sadistic, or maybe it was because she's a girl and it would have looked cowardly to run or even fight her, or maybe it was because, even though she was smiling at me with what looked to be joy, I could sense enough sadness to drive any person insane, that or I was just to scared to do anything. The girl once again turns around and starts to walk towards the bathroom door, but stops when she is right in front of it. "The next time we meet will be your last day alive." She says with a soft promising tone. "Survive until then." The girl says as all of the shadows in the bathroom seem to converge on her, and before I knew what was happening, the girl had vanished, along with the darkness that had covered the room. I soon found myself staring at the bathroom door as if it were some kind of foreign object that confused me completely. I was just to dazed, to surprise to do anything. "KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK!" "What are you doing in their Young man, your going to be late for school!" The voice of my mom yells from behind the bathroom door. I slowly open the bathroom door, to see my mom who whore short brown hair that rested in a short ponytail. She wore a white shirt and blue jeans. "Sorry mom I'll be down in a few minutes." I said to my mother who looked at me with frustration. I close the door once again and stare in the mirror. I looked at my reflection and wondered who was that girl with black hair? *** Author notes: Please support my work on Patreon for early access to new chapters. https://www.patreon.com/DarkMatter1234 |
