They Gave To All...

It was a day that lives in our hearts
As tears are shed for many across the east coast
The sound is deafening to our ears, as are the words
We have been attacked within our world

My son was in lockdown, as was his wife and baby girl
We had no way of knowing they were ok
The President was in lockdown with him as well those days of shutdown
As we all sat glued to the televisions for news

The tears pour down my cheeks still today
I think about the loss we all endured that day
And the days to come on foreign soil
Our sons and daughters would be fighting against evil once more.

My family has sacrificed many for freedom
They answer the call of duty with their hearts
To protect our country and many others
Without a blink of an eye

It is a way to celebrate our loved ones and the loss we bear
We call it Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and even D-Day
I sit here and recall the days spent with my loved ones that are gone
But never forgotten

Holding hands, laughing, and embracing one another
I know that one day we will be reunited
For the acts of courage, sacrifice, and love
They gave to All...
