In the Woods

Overhanging branches stretch into the distance
on a path that runs afar
glints of sunlight sneak in
and a musical begins

the melodious song of the lark
sets the mood for the day
a tiny grey flycatcher
swiftly flies away

the chorus of the song sparrows
reaches a crescendo,
with catcalls, roars and growls
the forest reverberates,

trees sway, leaves rustle
whoosh goes the wind
suddenly a loud snarl fills the air,
chaos reigns in the woods,

animals run helter-skelter
a lone deer strays,
stands dazed on a desolate path,
glad it could escape
