An Ode to the winds we can't escape
Windchimes

The windchimes sensed your coming,
I didn't heed the call;
looking out for something,
a heart to break the fall

A fall to somewhere special,
something unexpected, found;
someone who might mesh well,
someone, somewhere bound

Bound to something hidden,
something previously unseen;
unfelt, unsmelt, unbidden,
sheltered deep and set off screen

Shrouded from the outset,
sheltered from the storm;
left vulnerable with doubts met,
invested... yet withdrawn

Sinking where the malt's sat,
stinging from the plains;
singing from the salt flats,
I drink alone again

Silent for so long now,
still strung out in the woods;
hanging from such shaded bows,
ignored, misunderstood

Lost leaves begin to rustle,
as wind begins to build;
to home, we start to bustle,
as something deep, instilled

Urges us to haven,
despite the pleasant wind;
something warm we're craving,
... something cool we must rescind

'midst memories of songbirds,
dropping beats in transit, past;
'tween hidden glyphs and lost words,
crossed winds trained, cursed to last

Calling from such salt plains,
the heartland where it beats;
reluctant though, the soul strains,
... a spirit shy discreet

and still those chimes are ringing,
they shiver on your breeze;
the feelings that they're bringing,
the senses that they seize

How long had they been there?
How long has it blown?
a wind resplendent, laid bare,
nerve, muscle, sinew... bone

with shields, swords relinquished,
armoured suits shed, cast aside;
Knights spent long, distinguished,
Maiden days, the flesh abides

stripped away to nothing,
such fealty is sworn;
the windchimes sensed your coming,
... an inbound perfect storm
