A poem for George Floyd
Red, White, and Blue

Whispers fed, promises read.
Words scattered in the wind.
Innocent and Honest deceived.
Lies sprinkled from the trusted.

She loses hope, the world mopes
A person, dead, we wish to rise.
Was it a flaw in our dividing system,
or a law that’s been alive for too long?

He lays limp, never to awake as a
daughter cries, and a mother watches.
The land is now filled with smoke, shouts,
and so many bleeding, aching hearts.

The anger is alive, and the fear, too.
In the land of the free, will justice prevail?
The innocent and honest, deceived,
As one more body lays in the ground.
