A lonely dance through lockdown
The Dance

I long to see you dance again,
a wisp upon the wind
A dragonfly in flight, arcane
... a skin of courage, thinned

Walls erected long ago,
long before we met
Crossing paths with paces slow,
wings sheathed, hard to forget

A flight too bright, too rich for me,
skimmed pebbles, ripples stir
Living, lost in memory,
remembered as you were

Twirling round the way you are,
the way you've always been
A diamond, a blazing star,
entranced by facets seen

Hypnotic as the summer played,
through fast translucent wings
Flyers posted where I strayed,
'midst parked abandoned things

Fallen with the sands of time,
an hour glass blown thin
Sunburnt, captured in the rhyme,
all reason lost within

Lost amidst lush pastures green,
a past unspent, preserved;
saved in spaces, left unseen,
a future bright, reserved

Postponed for another year,
with nothing on the cards
A distance measured short, we fear,
just beyond two yards

Sleeping slow, on cold hard ground,
afraid off making noise;
in fear of what might be found,
afraid I might enjoy

a fabricated, mad pitched scheme,
a sequence of events;
afraid to break a crazy dream
with purpose or intent

Still as night time draws on in;
anxiety... it wakes
Nocturnal, oh what could have been,
daylight's hope ... it breaks

Burning 'neath a blazing sun,
a dreamlike summer dress
Uncapped, the bottle's water runs,
'neath baptised falls, we're blessed

as thunder threatens in the night,
rumbles, unopposed
Safe beneath electric light,
for now the stage is closed

Never one for opening,
such weaknesses they show;
but what a change a face can bring,
to places that we know

Places once thought sacred, barred,
now barren, cold... alone
Some phantoms just slip past our guard
... they make themselves at home

In places no one's ever been,
with gifts they never gave
The things that they have never seen,
the spaces where we crave

such dancing 'midst fans twirling, spun,
alive up on a stage
From gardens 'neath a setting sun,
from times long gone, an age

Bygone times that hold their sway,
where dragonflies don't know
I never really walked away,
... just never let it show

their place amidst a locked down haze,
with hatchlings in the pond
Remnants of past summer's days,
oft' dreamt, remembered fond

Washed up on a lonely shore,
'midst spent shells, never mine
I long to see you dance once more,
majestic... one last time
