A trip to the mailbox used to be a little more rewarding.
OPENING THE MAILBOX

Otherwise the magic is gone;
Peering inside a drab steel box,
Enveloped bills and credit offers,
New warranties for my old car,
In a stack of junk mail, piled,
New trash from the USPS.
Green trees for white paper.

There was a time a mail run
Had a special place in my day;
Enveloped bills and credit offers.

Many things change with time
And progress leaves us lonely.
In a stack of junk mail, piled,
Letters unwritten and left in pens,
Bills for commercial entertainment,
Otherwise the magic is gone;
X Rays reveal death by boredom.
