What comes between the fairytale 'Happy ever after' and the actual 'Happy ever after'
Heroines

A princess with a broken smile,
frozen, locked in time
Flaxen hair that flows for miles,
in fairytale rhyme
Once upon a time, she said,
I wished that you were mine
Enchanted, sleeping in her bed,
he never took the time,
for happy ever afters, lost,
damaged all the while
On her own, woke at a cost,
she wears a broken smile

A smile hiding Wonderlands
for those prepared to go
down rabbit holes, where chaos strands
in warrens deep below
Where Princes, charming, held the court
through kingdoms where she's been,
and Knight's in shining armour fought
in copper... foil... tin
Plated for a hero's cause,
a white Knight's shining trial,
but feeling lost, it gave her pause,
... left lost in errant smiles

Smiles slipped, yet never gone,
when all was done and said
Miles travelled, light long shone,
with chivalry long dead
Valour that's displayed too late,
heartfelt, yet poorly shown
When Knight's won't mail up to plate,
she had to bat her own
So bat her own, she came, she seen,
alone, she danced with style
A princess, now progressed to queen,
she wears an Angel's smile

An angel with a wicked grin,
a halo left off centre... wild
Wings off white, they shroud such sin,
Mischievous... her smile
stretching outward in their span,
extending, reaching out
Feathers shining, cause they can,
shedding off self doubt
In the sky, she frolics, plays,
with wings that stretch for miles
... wouldn't have her any other way,
she wears it well... that wicked smile
