A hauntingly beautiful freeverse
I've seen it many times,
Though my mind tells me it is not there.
My sensible side tells me it is something paranormal,
But truth be told,
I really don't think I'm sure anymore.
This thing walks the beach,
And vanishes without a trace.
I have gone out my house many a night,
Following it, just to see where it will lead me.
It goes to the old lighthouse, the one on the cliff,
Overlooking the emerald blue bay.
The lighthouse that is well over two hundred years old,
yet has been abandoned for at least one hundred years.
A forgotten relic from a forgotten past.
Maybe this spirit feels it is the same.
Somebody from a forgotten time, who died a tragic death,
And now cannot find rest.
So the ghost of this person from so long ago,
Continues to intrigue me.
I wish I could communicate with it, to find out
If it is a woman or a man, and what kind of tragedy befell them,
That their spirit thinks it must continue to abide on this side of the realm.
I would tell them, that it is ok to let go,
That this life, and this modern age
Has nothing for them, and they can do nothing for us.
Perhaps this spirit is just looking for a light? They do seem to be attracted to the old lighthouse,
Or maybe possibly it is the ghost of the one who once kept the light burning.
Maybe it is a spirit of a sailor who perished on the rocks below, because for whatever reason, the light was out
That dark and fateful night, so long ago.
I guess I will never know.
End.
