R.I.P. Bonnie 8/24/19 1:40 PM
She was a wee bonnie lass that came into our lives in 2008. Bonnie was an Airedale mix pup - a shelter dog we adopted.

Bonnie had a busy eight years to start. She helped us manage a motel, went hiking and skiing, long days fishing, and enjoyed long walks. We did everything as a trio.

When we retired from the motel and moved to a small town where we bought our home, I am sure the dog thought we had moved to a retirement village. No more late nights and early mornings. No more greeting people from all over the world. No more long hikes in the woods or lazy fishing days. Cold winters were spent mainly indoors.

The last few weeks of her life she grew increasingly fretful because of her deafness. We couldn't leave her alone for more than a moment without her coming to find us. Her last great dog trip must have been wonderful. It was a fishing day with soaks in the river, walking through the woods and a long car trip.

The morning of her death was painful. She had a hard time getting out of her bed and down the stairs. We knew the time had come. A friend was called and she came to pay respects. Bonnie rested while we talked to the vet, made arrangements, and then made our way to the office,

It is hard to say goodbye to an old friend. Our house is dark and empty without her spark in it. We will miss taking the four walks a day she required, but vow to continue them out of habit and in her honor. The vet told us we will be back to see her in a few months with a new puppy, We said no way. That is like telling a wife she will be marrying someone in a few months after the love of her life dies. We just can't see that happening right now.

Rest in peace, Bonnie, our wee bonnie lass.
