The canis major is outside my window and the lights of the plane flash against it, an incompetent imitator. I sit here alone in this metal wreck cutting through the inky ocean littered with bright beings.
Surrounded by sleeping strangers all of which so vulnerable, I awake watch over them and yet I do not hold the power. It is as if humanity has left me, completely in solitude with my thoughts. And I find myself the most vulnerable, unable to pick up the shield of sleep and drift off into safe slumber.
Here in sleepless fields monsters are lurking and I lie unarmed and alone. My only comfort is brought when I lift my eyes and wonder at the great dog looking down upon me, he pities me for being unable to do something as simple as sleep and I myself am sad I cannot join him in my dreams. As dreams are only possessed by those who slumber.
The canis major is outside my window and cries for me and I for him.
