Contest entry for Taboo Words
JULY PROMPT:

FEEDING THE DUCKS
taboo words:
feed
ducks
drakes
beaks
bread
quack

Feathered flocks awaiting sustenance
There daily by my pond
Impatiently swimming, or waddling.
We’ve formed a kind of bond.

“Don’t come too close, “ they honk a warning,
“Or we’ll fly fast away.
But, we’ll gobble up this yeast buffet
That you have brought today.”

Each day as the sun breaks ‘cross the sky,
And lights the water’s edge
I hear a great cacophony
Over the garden hedge.

My fowl friends are loudly beckoning,
They know it’s time to eat.
I’m not sure who gets the greater joy,
When we at sunrise meet.
