Some things are just too strong to stay buried
Old Gods [Eden, part II]

Inside the levees breaking,
the dam's hair lining cracks
Something deep is waking
from it's slumber 'neath the tracks

The tracks of bland normality,
anchored to such ground
Locked 'neath drab formality,
the rails circle round

Trains of thought, lost, running wild,
compressed, a head of steam
A life of chaos, found and filed,
bound in jackets, straight of seam

Insane to even bother
Inane to even try
In vain, I'm dreaming of her
In plain sight asking why?

Why the cracks form deeper
… deeper in this dam?
But Old Gods, they are sleepers,
and shallow are the lambs

Believing in their freedom,
the illusion, it is all
Until such time, we see them,
such deities stood tall

We bury them 'neath rationale,
but that's not how they work
Dwelling deep in chaparral,
they bide their time and lurk

Waiting till we think we're free
to rise on up again
With circumstances unforeseen,
... a hedonist's refrain

Between the thrum of rails run,
rough ground beneath our feet
Ground that's meant for everyone,
and anyone we meet

Ones we would look in the eyes,
if held, the nerve or strength
To face Old Gods, internal lies,
the truths in shadow's lengths

As mortal bars can't hold such beasts,
at best, we might just tame
We really should embrace such feasts,
consumed within their game

With levees breaking, bursting banks,
such cracks in dams, they show
As Old Gods rise up in their ranks,
ripping up rails... as they go
