Three Minute Read
Making a Plan

Depressed, I decided to go for a walk and clear my head. Albert had broken my heart. I thought he was the one. Apparently, he thought I was one of the ones. Seems he had three other girlfriends in addition to me! I was devastated when I found out. But I rose above. Today, however, I was sinking back below.

Unfortunately, as I stepped on the porch, it began to rain, and my umbrella was in the basement. I held out my hand to see if I could get away without it, but the rain was already heavy, so I sat down instead to wait it out. It was warm enough, just too wet.

Sitting there in the quiet I pulled at a loose thread on my sweater which unraveled a good piece before I realized. Just like with Albert. When I saw him with Gina, he told me she was his sister. Then Monica, another sister! And then there was Alice. I was actually fantasizing about one day having three sister-in-law’s when I pulled that thread, and found out he was an only child.

Confronting him, he confessed, sort of, saying I was so “lovely” he just couldn’t give me up! Even when he met Gina, and Monica, and then Alice...

Watching the rain, I came to realize that I’d not only saved myself, I’d saved those other girls too, plus all the girls he would have strung along in the future if I had just let it go. I was a hero really!

I decided then and there to go get my umbrella and take that walk. I really needed to come up with a good plan. I couldn’t very well keep Albert in my basement forever after all, he was already starting to smell funky.
