A poem about a broken friendship
Hi's in the Hallways

Back when we were friends
We would talk about everything and nothing
Sneak out of class just to chat
Facetime most nights
And I would enjoy it

Back when we were friends
We would sneak food into movie theatres
And I would review your writing
While you would help me with singing
And I would love it

Back when our friendship was rocky
You would talk to me, but briefly
While sneaking off with our other friends
Leaving me behind
And I would feel lonely

Back when our friendship was rocky
We would have two long conversations
Backstage during the musical
And you would promise that it would get better
But it didn't

Back when I had a crush on you
I would both avoid you and try to talk to you
While you just did the same old thing
Unaware of my true feelings
And I would feel hopeful

Back when I had a crush on you
We would have a text conversation
That shattered me
With one simple text
"i'm so sorry, but i don't feel the same way. i really hope we can still be friends"

Back when I was trying to heal from you
You would act normally around me
Because I told you to forget about it
But I couldn't
And I would feel ignored

Back when I was trying to heal from you
We would have a talk in the library
And I would tell you I was over my crush
And you would breathe a sigh of relief
And things went back to our new terrible normal
And I would feel numb

Now
I miss our friendship the way it was before
I miss the talking and the laughing and the singing
The hangouts and the texts
All of our everything
Reduced to hi's in the hallways
And nothing more
