The Wasps

“Hi honey. You’re home early, something wrong?”

“Hi, Jen. I used to spend hours thinking, but life gives and takes. We have kids with all that chaos, they grow and suddenly we're alone again. Then they’re back with kids bringing different chaos. It's amazing what you see when you look. They’re back again... It grows you know.”

“What?... Grows?”

“Outside, in the corner.”

“Damn! It’s back. You have to get rid of it before five.”

“Paper wasps, I've been watching them and thinking about how it grows, layer by layer.”

“Get rid of them, the grand kids are coming.”

“Each day... It grows.”

“You can be so obtuse. Just get rid of it. I don't want you stung again, call an exterminator.”

“Okay, I'll call in a few minutes. They fascinate me.”

“Do it now, please, I'd like it gone. And I'd like to stop talking about wasps.”

“Jen, You know I like to approach things obliquely, I talk around it and if it's a natural process it's easier to understand, easier to take.

“Oh my god! You saw Phil today about those tests.”

“Honey, I love you. I'll get rid of the wasps nest... It grows you know.

“Oh, God, David... God... ohh, God... I'm so sorry. Time, we have time. It does grow, but we can knock it down. If they build again, we'll knock it down again, ...and again; fuck those damned wasps!”
