A child learns monsters can be defeated.
“Daria!”

“Huh—“

“Get up Daria, it’s time for our games. We wouldn’t want to disappoint me, would we. I feed on your screams and I’m hungry.”

It's mouth opened and looked like it could fit all of me in, “I’m not afraid of you any more! Get out, you’re just an imaginary monster. I’m 8 now and I don’t have to be scared of you any more.”

“What makes you think that?”

“I don’t care. You don’t scare me any more. The lady said so.”

“Lady? You don’t know any ladies.”

“She’s a doll my gramma gave me when I told her about you and said many of her grammas had her. She’s old. And she told me she was a lady and Kas— uh— something foreign, and she would protect me.”

“Well, your gramma is wrong. It’s just a doll, and there’s nothing a doll can do to me.”

“Gramma says you’re just a minor demon too and not to be scared of you any more so I’m not.”

“Minor demon, hmmm, I may have to pay you’re gramma a visit.”

“You’ll be sorry, my gramma said she knew your kind and wasn’t afraid.”

“She will be. Where’s your new doll, I’ll tear the head off and show you it’s useless.”

“In the chair.”

The doll turned her head when it picked her up and said, “My name is Kasdeya, demon, the fifth in hell where you’ll burn now. I’ve been protecting my family for centuries.

BE GONE!”

The demons scream as it popped and turned to smoke made Daria smile. “There’s no need to be frightened any more child, I’ll be with you until you give me to another. Sleep well, grand daughter.”

The doll climbed back into the chair and settled to wait until needed again.
