The plea of an ancient warrior
Must You always deny me?
What more must I bear?
Is there a place, there a purpose;
Can some other lover go there?

My war has ended, You've shown me.
We won every battle; glory in the fight.
Retire me, please, take me home.
Walk me into that famed old light.

Say my name, sound the horn;
Walk me down the hall.
Not into the fire, not into the pit,
But into peace, a final call.

Let me bathe in unending warmth;
No care could enter me from here.
And as I fade into Your beauty,
I won't remember, even, the feel of tears.
