Flash Fiction
Internet

Alice decided to spend the day making pumpkin pies. She’s found an amazing recipe on the internet. First, she checked ingredients, she already had pumpkin she’d bought last week, in the garage.

Oh, the garage! In her excitement over planning the pies she almost forgot the other project. It was so spur of the moment. She hadn’t done it for years, deciding to give it up when the internet got so popular.

Internet shopping was so easy. It had pretty much killed off traveling salesmen. Alice snickered at the thought. ‘Killed off traveling salesmen.’ They were annoying, pathetic. Suddenly she wondered what those people do nowadays. They probably found some new way to trick people out of their money. But at least they didn’t have to go door to door anymore, they could be tricksters in a nice quiet, warm room. Turning her mind to the problem in the garage, she shook herself to concentrate. What had she done with all her stuff.

The freezer was pretty empty, accidently, but thankfully. She had been using up everything lately having read, on the internet, that old frozen food can go bad. Her cutting tools would still be in the workshop. She just needed "knock out liquid," unfortunately they’d stopped selling that brand in 1976. Off to the internet again!

Finally, new potion in hand, she went out to the garage. There was the poor, out of sync, traveling salesman that had come to her door yesterday, tied to the car.

“You poor man,” she said, “I almost forgot about you it’s been so long! But I still know just what to do. No more knocking on doors for you, you’ll finally be at peace.” She held up the cup of liquid, “here you go sweet boy, just drink this.”
