A woman sits down to a meal at a restaurant and is surprised with a strange occurrence
Cynthia Davis sat at her favorite restaurant that she and her ex-friend and co-worker discovered together. She felt bad that her co-worker Maddy was angry with her but the promotion at work was always a shoe in for her. She would not apologize for being the better of the two.

She pulled out her phone and started answering messages while waiting on her food. Strangely, a message kept popping up that said, "you need to fix this." Cynthia looked around the restaurant then back down at her phone which repeated the same message. She started getting a little nervous because what was happening was weird. There was no author of these messages and that's what made it so strange. She looked around again, got up and went to the ladies' room. She patted her face with cold water hoping that her feeling of panic would subside and it did.

As she made her way back to her table, she felt a little off balance, but she was okay. Her food had arrived and just as she was ready to dig in, her mother and father appeared across from her in the booth. Cynthia looked at her parents and just stared.

Her mom explained that she knew Cynthia was not being honest about the way she went about getting her promotion at work. She told her that she did not raise her to be dishonest or a thief and that she needed to fix this. Her father chimed in, but he was a little more forceful with what he had to say while Cynthia stared in disbelief and said nothing. After her parents said their peace, they politely got up and left. Cynthia sat stunned at what she had just witnessed. She left the money for the check and headed back to the office.

Once she reached the office, she had a talk with her supervisor about how she cheated to get the promotion and that she didn't deserve it. The supervisor thanked her and politely asked her to pack her things and leave. As she walked by her co-workers, her ex-friend Maddy just stared. She knew all the time that Cynthia had cheated but she couldn't prove it. Cynthia apologized and left. When she reached her car, she just sat inside and sobbed. She was shaken up because her parents had been dead for two years and to see them scared her to death. She decided to blame their appearance on her guilt but whatever the reason, she was thankful and relieved. Subconsciously the lie was eating her alive, but she was finally free of it.
