Faced with a choice - and chose wrongly. (Joint winner in a 3-way tie CRAMP Birthday week)
It was entirely my choice
It was up to me to decide
I could take the easy way
Or opt for a tougher ride.

"You're an adult now"
Was the general sentiment
But nobody dwelt on
What that really meant.

Deep in my heart I knew
What needed to be done
But I hesitated
I knew it wouldn't be fun.

See, the thing is
I knew perfectly well that
By any normal standards
I was a spoiled brat.

I had a maid waiting
To fulfil my every wish
She did all the laundry
She cooked, she washed every dish.

I didn't have to lift a finger
I didn't have a single chore
Who wanted it anyway?
It was a bore.

Now I was eighteen
I could choose to grow
Do things for myself
Send the maid away, you know

She had been with my grandma
Who would welcome her back
But -- to tell the truth
I decided to slack.

I made the wrong choice
And kept the maid on
Didn't learn to depend on me
Didn't learn to grow strong.

Now that she's gone forever
I really regret
I made the wrong choice
One I won't forgive or forget.
