Phone Call “Hello?” I said, after grabbing my phone, practically in my sleep. “Don’t do it!” a man’s voice said, threateningly. “What?” I said quickly, but he was gone. The phone said “unknown caller.” As I lay there, completely awake now, I went over every person and situation in my life. It was a man, though... could it have been a woman? Shaking my head, I didn’t recognize the voice. I went over situations instead. Biggest, breaking up with Brad. But the only people who know about that were my closest girlfriends. Brad certainly didn’t have a clue. Plus, it wasn’t him, and if his friends knew, they’d be rejoicing. My job, of course. A couple people knew that I had been looking around. It wasn’t really serious though, everybody looks, right? Then there was the kitten. I kept seeing this kitten at the corner, and had been bringing him food. I was thinking of taking him in, I’ve never had a pet before. But, nobody knew about that either. The necklace, too expensive but I couldn’t shake it out of my head. Going back to the gym, reluctant, but needing it. Replacing the brown skirt or getting a new suit for meetings... OK!! I finally sat up. I will break up with stupid Brad. I will try to find new ways to enjoy my job, and if that doesn’t happen, I will start looking seriously next month. The cat gets a home, today. The necklace, out. Yes on the gym, also today, and a new suit for work! I lay back down, mentally exhausted but feeling better than I had in months! The phone rang again. “Kathy! Never mind my first call, I fixed the problem you can do it now!” and he hung up. I smiled, my name’s Susan. |
