As a child, I learned Biblical passages. I am surprised children today do not know any!
I know there are a lot of believers out there. There are those who pray and go to church every Sunday.

About three months ago, I asked some of my grandchildren a question that popped out at me in church, and their answer hurt me to my core. The question was, do you know the Lord's prayer? THEY DID NOT! Okay, I was talking to the younger crew, but that should not have mattered. THEY are my grandchildren, and they should have known that before they turned three.

So, since then, we have been on a mission. They had to learn the Lord's prayer. The great effort started that day, and Sunday during service, I listened intensively to hear their voices when the Lord's prayer was being said. SOME of them made me smile while I know that I still have to work with the others.

But that question to my grands made we wonder how many of us have stopped teaching our children what we were taught? The Lord's Prayer. The 23rd Psalm. The Beatitudes. 1st Corinthians 1-13 -- Love, Hope, and Charity. John 3:16. The list goes on, but these were some of the basics.

If we are not teaching these things to them, then who is?

If you have not been doing this with your grands and children in the neighborhood, just remember it is never too late to start. You will be surprised at the values you will instill and the character it will build. Maybe we will not teachers strapping guns in schools. Maybe, just maybe students won't be so angry that they feel the need to carry weapons to schools to hurt others.

I am okay with them taking prayer out of the schools -- they cannot take it out of my home, my car, my backyard or my heart, and IF WE INSTILL it in our children, no one can take it away from them either.

My thoughts for today although this is not what was on my mind when I sat down here. I was going to talk about the sermon on Sunday about faith. I guess that is for another time.

Peace and blessings always.

FOOTNOTE: You do not have to be a believer, a Christian, or some other title to teach your children and others values. You just have to want to make a difference in their lives and set a good example. I am NOT talking about going to heaven or hell, just learning to live together here on this earth.
