If you don't follow the stereotype, you might as well die.
I walked into a store
With a smile
For I saw a bluebird on the way here
I heard it sing it's song for all

I picked out a new book to buy
When a woman turned to look at me
She contemplated the book and said
Sweetheart, girls don't read violence

I had heard that voice somewhere before
Maybe it was the whispers behind my back
Or the angry looks thrown at me
Just because I was different

No, I may not like dresses or fancy parties
Yes, maybe I like to get down 'n' dirty
Yes, maybe I prefer a gun to ring
My only question?

Why?
Why cannot I let out my inside
To be a beast that runs free
To be myself, flying above the clouds

Away, away from these people
Who only see society
Good lord, why should I care what they think of me?
Because someone who cares will let me be

I wish we were all free
From the clutches of society
We hear the song before we see the color
For the bluebird sings for all
