Feb. 7 prompt - Chinese gods of household goods.
Books
encapsulate libraries
honouring dreams
Families long held
Past down
Through generations
They are instruments
Providing emancipation
From customary prejudice
They are mind alerting
They are mind opening
They give freedom wings
Taking you places you never dreamed existed.
They let blind men see
They teach
They preach
They reach
They fill impoverished souls
With hope
And provide places for escape
When our world
Bares down on us
Threatening full engulfment
They bring clarity
Provide resources
Making way for new choices
And alternative ways
They uplift
They allow for soft places
That capture those who need it
Letting you regain
Your equilibrium
And find harmony
The outside world
May roar and gnash its teeth
But inside the home
Families find comfort
In tales told over and over.
