A Little Help

‘Don’t blink!’ Jake said to himself, as he blinked.

‘I can do this, I am calm!’ he chanted for the five hundredth time. He closed his eyes, feeling sweat trickling down from his hair.

Trying to force his body to relax, he started with his head, imagining calm flowing down his neck, down his body, out each finger, down his legs. ‘Relax, relax,’ he chanted in his mind.

‘Yeah right’ another voice said.

‘Get out!’ Jake yelled into his mind, ‘This is none of your business!’

‘My body too,’ said the other voice.

“No, you’re a parasite! Dr. Winston said so!” Jake yelled, out loud this time.

‘Pipe down, you wanna bring the white coats in?’

Jake looked around quickly. ‘Nobody’s coming...’ he said sulkily. ‘You’re a parasite... this is my body.’

‘Only because you have a bank account, if I had the bank account, you’d be the parasite. Don’t you know by now Dr. Winston is just in it for the money.’

‘You’re not helping!’ Jake said sulking.

‘What exactly are we trying to do here.’ the other voice said.

‘I ripped my robe. I thought could sew it.’

‘Do you know how to sew?’

‘I don’t know, but I have a needle and thread! I just can’t get the thread into the needle.’

‘Let me have it’ the other voice said.

Jake’s hands immediately stopped shaking and easily pushed the “thread” through the “eye of the needle.”

‘Thanks,’ Jake said.

‘No problem’, the voice answered.

Alex watched the monitor, turning to Fred he said, “Wow, that medication works quick! That fella was a shaking wreck and then suddenly, boom! Calm as a cucumber! I wonder what the poor guy thinks he’s doing with that pitcher, he keeps poking the belt from his robe through the handle...”
