Southern New Mexico after several days of heavy rain.
Desert Deluge

Rays of stabbing, red, burnt orange pain
From the sky upward, greet my forced mask.
The heat, creates a moist and odoriferous stink
Starting to rise from my profusely glittering skin.

Mesquite moldy, pungent and bold.
Smokey, such as a brisket
Tantalizes my nostrils in anticipation.

Humidity rises;
Feet, knees and lungs cry with blue pain.
Dankness mixes with pungent oil of creosote,
A yellow/brown, spiny itchy musk, to the senses.
Tingling, strikes of pins and needles on my flesh,
In early afternoon.
Animals, shapes and faces appear,
Dark and thunderous.
The dance drum beats with in my heart
All colors in the rainbow are primed to break through,
Before my very eyes.
White whips illuminate the sky.

Dust rises up as bullets drop choking
The stunning tangerine canary light from the sky.
Bullets splash brownish-black and disheveled sand
On the seat of the cracked yellow and burnt sienna ground.

Projectiles clip and smash anyone caught; down, down they come,
Drains hemorrhage and deluge the dirty,
Grungy routes with enormous amounts
Of raging, boiling, over flowing threat.

Rolling powerful, winding, through immersed, by precedent setting,
Embittered enraged, glorified arroyos.
Sabotaging consolidated asphalt on the main drag,
Amputates its structure, leaving in its path only caliche,
Red blood of old roadways torn off their feet
