A daughter with her elderly father in a nursing home |
O Father Father O Father Father, Roll us thee cap And tell us some tales of the years gone by Ow reet, I'll tell you lass Pull up a chair & sit ov'r there I'll tell you the tale of the Great War The war to end all wars ( Some hope there lass ) I'll tell you of sailing to Canada With U-boats beneath But we made it somehow ( Well some of us did ) But many young lads lie lost Deep in the ocean Oh the cost! I'll tell you of Aldershot Barracks Was it fun? No, lass - It was merry hell I cannot bear to tell you, without crying Of man's inhumanity to man And to woman, and even young children We went to war, seeking peace Madness ! And today there are no lessons learned Our world leaders are madmen & fools So no wonder ! My holidays ( What few are left! ) Will NEVER be spent in Germany I cannot forgive. Cannot! But Dad - Young German lads, living today They cannot be blamed For their grandpa's misdeeds Shall we for the atrocities blame Hitler? Well - Y E S ! And others, too many to name Carry the guilt & the blame OK lass. I see. I agree. I can change Even at 90, I can try to forgive & forget And do what I always said I wouldn't do for a bet At weekend I'm off to Dusseldorf, EasyJet Auf Wiedersehen Pet ? |
