DESTITUTE
At street corners and roundabouts,
We sit helplessly; hopelessly,
Waiting for help, for things to talk about,
We lay on streets and under bridges,
On highways and main roads
Wishing for happiness, fate's ridges.
For we believe in hope, though weight with depressing loads.
Children, women and men pass, nodding heads
At our shame, in poverty and want drenched.
Our dreams disillusioned, our doubts cleared.
With teary eyes and wrinkled faces,
With tattered clothes and tired bodies,
In weariness and dire need of food,
We beg for a living.
Leprous and lame, in short paces,
Unguarded and defenseless in our hood.
We are hungry and thirsty buddies,
Starved of love, deprived of our rights,
We deserve to be treated fairly.
We want to be part of you,
Though underprivileged, our voices must be heard.
In unison, we say:
"We are humans and deserve to be treated as such"
