I am troubled by what I see – A Write from the Heart Music Inspired Entry |
Carry on Wayward Son I am troubled by what I see – the dismantling of liberty; the promotion of fear and hate. Can we change before it’s too late? I watch our nation’s behavior, bowing before a false savior, as our values are overrun. I stand proudly - a wayward son. The country that I defended, its promises open-ended, still exists, though it’s hard to find when so many have a closed mind. Don’t succumb to lies that you hear. Stand up to the rumors and fear spread by those who seek to enslave shunning gifts our forefathers gave. United, we’ll once more reclaim the promise of Liberty’s flame – that freedom’s not an empty word. Together, our voices are heard! We once cast off harsh tyranny and mid-wifed the land of the free. Once more we are called to endure; we’re not the problem, we’re the cure. I look at our proud history and I hear its whisper to me: “Carry on, my wayward son … for there’ll be peace when you are done.” An entry for Round 17 of "Write from the Heart Poetry Contest" Prompt: Pick one of your favorite songs and use at no more than two lines of lyrics in your poem. Use the song title as the title of your poem. You may write in any style you choose. Wayward Son Line Count: 26 Thank you Christopher Roy Denton for all the help |
