Rolling Thunder was a horse that lived in a far away land called Anthromorphia. Each year he would stand in the pasture grazing and awaiting the coming of Christmas. It was his hope that he would get to have a talk with Santa Claus after the Anthromorphia Christmas parade this year. He knew exactly what he would ask the jolly old elf for. He pranced as he stood in line with his girlfriend waiting to see Santa.
"Are you standing here thinking about asking Santa Claus for something totally outrageous", asked Queen Bee, his favorite young filly.
"Yes" he answered despite knowing that she thought he was crazy. "I sure do hope Santa gives me what I want this year. I have something very special I want to ask him for."
"What do you want him to bring you", the pretty young Appaloosa filly asked him.
"I don't want him to bring me anything", Rolling Thunder answered. "I want him to grant me a favor."
"What favor will you ask of him then", Queen Bee asked.
"I'd ask him to grant me the ability to fly and allow me to lead his sleigh team one year. If I couldn't lead it at least make me part of it."
"That's what I love about you Thunder", Queen Bee answered. "You never quit dreaming and when you dream you do it with gusto."
"Pulling a sleigh isn't so much a dream for a horse", Thunder answered. "You and I are both more than capable of pulling a sleigh."
""That's very true", she replied, fearing she may have hurt his feelings, "but we're not talking about a sleigh that slides along through the woods."
After what seemed an eternity the line was gone and it was Rolling Thunder's turn to talk to Santa Claus. He felt very nervous considering what he was going to ask but he put on a brave face and went forward.
"What can I do for you today Thunder", asked Santa.
"It's not so much what you can do for me Santa", Thunder replied. "It's more about what I want to do for you. You see I'm a horse. I'm very powerful and I can run like the wind. Therefore I wanted to see if it may be possible for me to join your team this year and help pull your sleigh?"
"Well I don't know Thunder", Santa replied. "To be totally honest with you I've never considered using a horse as a member of my sleigh team. However I suspect my reindeer may be a bit intimidated by your presence. I know you've really got your heart set on helping me out though so I'll give it a great deal of thought."
"Okay Santa", Thunder replied.
As they were speaking a technician from the parade approached them. "Santa", the technician asked "I know that you normally use reindeer but we're having a problem with your sleigh. It came off the truck we had it on and it's stuck in a snow bank. It's much too heavy for us to move. Can we borrow your your horse team and pull it out?"
"Well it's not my decision to make", said Santa. "It would be up to the horses. However I think I can speak for one when I say that I'm sure you can find a volunteer or two."
Once Rolling Thunder and Queen Bee had successfully pulled Santa's sleigh out of the embankment of snow he allowed them to pull him up the street and out of sight of everybody else. "Are you two ready", Santa asked. "Here we go!"
Suddenly Thunder felt his hooves leave the ground as he galloped into the air. He was doing it! He was pulling Santa's sleigh through the sky!
