Love separated by fear and a broken heart--or is it?
For a few seconds the words stopped.
The chatter of our daily drudge paused,
My green and your blue met,
Speaking silently for a moment.
My heart jumped—I thought only
Of how I’d come to love you.
So deeply you gazed into my eyes—
Were you thinking of me?
Or of something else altogether?
It seems so obvious to everyone
Except you.
We are perfect together—it seems.
Your heart fears another wound—
But I won’t break your heart.
Or is that an easy way out,
To avoid the truth that
You would be ashamed of me.
I’m not like the loves of your friends,
Thin and grand and lovely.
Then the words begin again.
Back to the daily drudge
That brought us together—
And keeps us apart.
Or so you say.
