First chapter: The Man
"Omnia mutantur, nihil interit (everything changes, nothing perishes)."
-Ovid, Metamorphoses

I've just made a decision with such far-reaching consequences it is wetting my pants. That means a cleanup and a new start. I am becoming Pygmalion!

Pygmalion (/pig'meilion/; Greek, , gen.: is a legendary figure from Cyprus, best known from Ovid's narrative poem Metamorphoses, in which Pygmalion is a sculptor falling in love with the statue he has carved.

My name is Dirk B. This weblog is going online soon. Not because I have a non-stoppable urge to self-destruct, but because the process I am in right now needs to be told, has to be visible, so I can learn from what I am about to reveal.

My plan is to make sculptures of dead women's bodies. To do that, I will have to kill them first.

A cold statement of a horrendous fact: I will have to kill to create. Since I never before have thought up, imagined let alone acted upon something like this I will write it all down. In case I end up in jail there will be food for psychologists. But I will do everything in my power to prevent that. In the tradition of Damien Hirst and 'The Physical Impossibility Of Death In The Mind Of Someone Living'.

How do I start, where do I begin, who will be my first? The selection has to be very careful. It falls or stands with it. Who are the chosen ones? Does it matter or does chance gets a say? I am not totally convinced yet, will have to carefully balance the prevailing factors. Of course, it has to be doable, with the biggest chance of success and without any trace towards me. I have seen Dexter, the television series as well, but how is the relationship between art and reality here, which one of the two will determine my first approach? It is a decision-making process that's very hard to be practically construed. Still, that's what has to be done.

I am going to sleep on it tonight.

04.28 am: It is going to be a triptych in plastic, a cycle of three middle-aged women. To underscore their vulnerability they have to be over sixty years old, scarred by life, chained in art, and imprisoned by death. My Daphne, my Io, and Elise. I will carve you out in one piece. I use brown-black serpentine rock at my first photo session. It will be so.

One space: four people approaching each other. The stage is set, the players have arrived, unaware of their role. The director has the plan in his head and nods, satisfied. He locks the door and turns on the lights. Now it goes on!

Do you want to know who you are? Don't ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you. Thomas Jefferson.
