An homage to the season of summer! A "Try Something New" Winner
It Must Be Summer ...

It must be summer …
This morning, as I lay in bed,
the sun came in. I hid my head
but it would not let me ignore
like winter’s darkness did before.

It must be summer …
The sounds of nature’s symphony,
the squirrels and birds up in the tree,
invite me out to sit, unwind …
(and bring them food, if I’ve a mind.)

It must be summer …
The ladies, like my garden’s rose,
are blooming with their painted toes
that peek from sandals, once more found,
in styles and fashions that astound!

It must be summer …
Silence reigns once more at school.
The kids are splashing in the pool.
The suits get smaller every year!
(No, I wasn’t staring, dear …)

It must be summer …
The smell of grilling fills the air
as friends and family gather where
old conversations start anew
now that our hibernation’s through.

It must be summer …
The clink of ice cubes in my glass,
the perfume of the new mown grass,
the unseen pollen in the breeze …
I feel a constant need to sneeze!

It must be summer …
The world seems to take on a glow;
no longer does it lay fallow.
It fills with rich diversity …
and shares its gifts with you and me.

Yes, it must be summer.
