The Oliver Syndrome

When Super McBeen thought that they could do more,
they turned part of their restaurant into a store.
A pharmacy also--a newspaper, too;
and even a place where the mail would accrue.

They bought out the businesses so they could grow;
to them taking over was quite apropos.
They lived by the motto, More is no disgrace;
a lot of the town-folk were red in the face.

The restaurant suffered because of new stuff;
a lot of the diners did not get enough.
Dissatisfied, they left with stomachs uptight;
and many sought donuts from Dunkin’ at night.

They launched a newspaper and called it The Green;
yet due to a shortage of ink it was lean.
Some local events and the weather report;
an ad for themselves and a wee bit of sport.

For pharmacy matters, they filled up the shelves;
(they kept some pain killers and speed for themselves.)
Their headaches were mounting, the stress so intense;
they tried sorting mail but it didn’t make sense.

Those heads of McBeen know the meaning of fail;
most are looking for work--a few are in jail.
a lot fled the scene to the inland or shore;
a few stand on corners and simply cry, “More!”
