Here they come,
Between the slats in the blinds,
The cracks
In the pavement.
Their tentacles
Reach for my bones,
There is nothing new there.
Cold calling in the night,
They come for me
With their insane chatter,
Their dreams
Catching in my throat –
I awaken breathless
In a cold sweat.
They come too swiftly
With death in their eyes.
I could care less for them.
They are heavy handed,
Their weight unbearable.
In to the light I go,
But they remain, un-shattered.
Once too many
They will come;
I will not be there.
I will have packed my things,
Departed, then,
They will find my abandoned skin
Upon the bathroom floor.
