My first attempt at a heist story
"You are here because you have agreed to help me get into the MGM Casino," Leah looked at the people who sat before her. From the intelligence she had gathered, they were the best of the best in their respective fields. "At stake is almost a billion dollars, and the man who hired me wants that money."

"What's the plan?" Ranger asked. His expertise was getting around places unseen. In the past he had robbed banks without leaving so much as a fingerprint behind. A weakness for loose women and cash under the table, made him an easy target to join the team. "This plan better be good or I will take a giant step back and watch you go down."

"We've all worked with Leah before, we know that she's excellent at what she does." Ellen gave a huge smile to the leader. She was the getaway driver; no one drove faster or knew more of the dark alleys in the city than she did.

"Thank you Ellen. Corey, I need you to make sure that you can hack the system and keep it in our control for about 15 minutes. That should give Ranger and I enough time to get into the vault, get the money, and get out." Corey shook his head in agreement. He several government agencies wanted him for releasing classified information. "Tonya, you need to be our lookout. If you see anyone heading our way let us know immediately."

The ride to the casino was silent as each contemplated what was at stake. Many of the members wondered why Leah had accepted the job. It was well known that she was a mafia princess, and didn't need the money. Ellen reasoned that it was the thrill of the caper that made her do it. Corey didn't concern himself with the reason why, just wanted the money to get out of the country.

When they arrived at the casino, they headed to the penthouse that the boss rented for them. Corey went to work on the computers, punching in an endless stream of passcodes and commands. After what seemed like an eternity, he looked up and said "I'm in."

Leah and Ranger made their way down to the casino. It saddened Leah that the highlight of a lot of these blue haired ladies' day was coming to the casino. She put the thought out of her head as they started meandering their way back to the offices. Without warning Ranger threw his arm around her and brought her close. "I'll be true to you! You are the love of my life..."

Leah picked up on his cue. "I love you too, Pookie."

Both of their cell phones exploded with rings. Tonya was letting them know that security was following them, and that one had made a call to the local police department. Leah took a deep breath and thought about the best course of action.

"We are not aborting this mission. We have come too far to give up," Ranger eyed the offices, Leah followed his look. Before they could agree on an amended plan, shots rang out. They both fell to the ground and began crawling towards the offices. Bullets kept flying above their heads as they inched closer to the target.

Leah's phone chimed again, this time it was Corey informing her that he had lost control of the computer system. That didn't matter to her now that they were so close to accomplishing what they set out to do. She punched in the code and the safe door released and opened a little bit. Inside the walls held $100 bills as far and high as the eye could see. Even from the hidden camera she had installed she hadn't known that the vault was this filled.

"Don't even think about taking any for yourself, Ranger."

"I just want to catch the last train to Clarksville, and settle down with the cash you're paying me from this job. After that I'm just gonna get me a dog."

Leah began filling her oversized purse with the money. Her partner-in-crime did the same with the duffle bag that he had hidden under his shirt. Out of nowhere someone was clapping, and in the doorway to the vault appeared a frail old man. "Thank you for proving my team's short comings. I knew that if anyone could do it, it would be you Leah."

"Thank you, Mr. Darbot. Your team isn't as unprepared as you think that they are. The computer system was back in your control in less than 10 minutes and your guards were on to us in less time than I anticipated."

"No they weren't. They were watching some goons coming in, and the guns that they carried frightened them. It angers me because they carry their own guns." Ranger looked between the casino owner and his boss, failing to make a connection. "Dear boy, you must be slow. I hired Leah and agreed to pay an exorbitant amount of money to test my security. The fact that you are in here means they have failed."

"There was a shootout though, perhaps they felt it was best to deal with that, sir?"

"Sorry about that Mr. Darbot. My husband is the jealous type and he thought that I was having an affair or something, and he wanted to send a message. Who says romance is dead?"

They gave the money to the pit boss while Mr. Darbot talked to the police to keep the team out of trouble. Leah looked over at Ranger and knew that he had kept some of the money, as she had.

Corey sat in the lobby with handcuffs on, crying "I wanna be free, I don't want to go to jail."

"You're going to be fine, I promise." Leah smiled and headed outside. Ellen was waiting for her in the Corvette. Once in the car, she took Ellen's hand and they sped away.
