The calendar says it is "that" time of year,
When we are inclined to spread some holiday cheer,
The time to get festive, and jolly you know,
Spurred on by jingle bells and ho, ho hos,
It is still early in this holiday season
And we are still clinging to a modicum of reason,
Budgets, diets, and boundaries on time,
A few safeguards that assure us we will be "fine",
Determined to avoid the commercial side of it all,
We go way out of the way to avoid the mall,
We try to resist treats with a polite, "thank you, no",
But we fear being rude so our waist lines grow and grow,
As the days tick away and our safeguards erode,
Our diets are blown, and our budgets explode,
The boundaries on time are breached all around,
As we search for cheer, little can be found,
We forget what we know in our hearts to be true,
The real gift of the season for me and for you,
So, family and friends let us all make a pact,
To remember the season's most important fact
Christmas is the birthday of He who freed us
The one and only, beautiful and perfect JESUS!
