34 line poem in response to Daily Prompt

Longing for Eternity

There wasn't a message in the bottle
I looked. It was empty.
Instead, with no direction
I pick my way along the stream
The rocks shine green
Slick from moss
Wet from spray
That tumbles downstream
Relentlessly moving where?
I wish I had a fishing rod.
A simple }fish hook on a piece of string.
I can see silver sparks
Flashing among the riffles
As if lost salmon lie in wait
To catch my line and let me feed
On their delicate flesh
The color of sunrise
The taste of freedom.

The sky is a brilliant blue
Cotton clouds drift
Slow dancers across an azure floor,
Swaying as the wind blows gently
Singing softly among the trees
Like a flute that fills my ears
Reminding me of another time,
Another place where salmon lie
Slyly waiting among the rocks
Above Loch Ness, hiding from hooks
Waiting for stoneflies, basking in the sun

I dream I am dancing
In the blue beyond
My red shoe lifts me high
As I leap to the sky
And leave the stream behind.
