Chapter 1

Norah's Problem

Norah Turner was a 15-year old girl with dirty-blond hair and mint green glasses. She was a quiet, bookish person who didn't like crowds much. Normal, I guess you'd call her. Maybe a little strange, but she blended in well...until her life changed forever with just one piece of paper. A letter, in fact:

Dear Norah Turner,

I am very pleased to notify you that you have been accepted into a school I think you will very much enjoy. You see, you have exceptional powers that may risk your life and other's lives if you are not trained to use them. One rule about this letter is that you must not tell anyone except your parents. After you have memorized the email, please burn this letter. If you would like to join the School of Power, please email me at tabithaf@schoolofpower.com.

Thank You!
Yours sincerely, Tabitha Forester

[Ahem. Holly, I think I can take it from here.]

[Right. Sorry, Norah.]

Hello there. I'm Norah Turner. I suppose Holly's told you all about how my life changed forever and blah blah blah. [Ow, Holly! Don't pinch.] I really wasn't surprised. Strange things had been happening since I turned fifteen. Water in the water fountains at school sprayed the mean girls that were teasing me in the face. The class gerbil suddenly started talking to me during math class. Flowers grew where is stood when I was upset. I was quite relived when I got the letter; it meant I wasn't going crazy, imagining all these things. When I ran downstairs to show Mom, she nearly fainted. After I had run to get the smelling salts, she brought me a glass of water to show her that it was all really true. I had to concentrate really hard, but I was able to make a little stream of water flow out of the top and stay there. Mom gasped. "Oh, honey, this is amazing! Go and email them right away!" So I ran up to my room to login to my computer and email her. The return email appeared almost instantly.
