We stand on the edge of a precarious cliff
Our eyes scan the endless landscape before us
We feel the pain that lances us from the tiff
That came out of nowhere with such a big fuss.
What seemed so innocuous has blistered
Into something profound, cunning and twisted
Dragging us out of lament and bestirred
Us to do something important and unassisted.
What was once calm and untouched
Now suffers under the strain
Our hands grab and claw and clutched
To our hearts, we hold back the disdain.
We try to see the positive in the situation
But our hearts our heavy and dark
Unwilling to change through the duration
We are left alone, cold and stark.
We pray for this ugliness to lift
For easier times to return
For the world to open and shift
And for us to move forward and learn.
Learn what we need to from all of this
The heartache and sorrow that floods all of us
It is hard to face but equally hard to miss
We no longer want to be that grumpy gus.
