Jason T. Gaffney in “Russian Doll”

You’re probably most familiar with this soon-to-be household name playing “boy-next-door” types, like in the hit “The Perfect Wedding,” but hottie (and well-educated) Jason T. Gaffney will soon be singing a completely different tune in an upcoming role.

“Russian Doll” is the title of Jason’s new film, which he is producing, and his father, Ed Gaffney is writing. It really is a family affair, and what talented folks the Gaffney family are. I had the privilege of having an intimate chat with Jason not too long ago, and really picked his brain.

In this double agent, spy-genre movie, Jason plays an abductor. Gaffney stated, “It’s one of those stories where no one is really quite who they seem; they shed their layers as time passes, much like that of a Russian doll.” Gaffney takes on the role of a straight male, but to be honest, his sexual orientation isn’t heavily discussed.

“This will probably be my one shot at playing the ‘bad guy,’ and shed my ‘goody two shoes’ image,” Gaffney reflected on the upcoming role.

I don’t know about you, but the ex-GaySocialites Man Crush Monday superstar seems like he’d be more attractive as a badass.

Regarding the working relationship he has with his father and family, Jason said, “I’ve always been close with my parents. Both of them showed me that if you have a dream, then you need to go after it. When ‘The Perfect Wedding’ came into my head, I knew that they would want to make it with me, and they would help me pursue my goal of creating it. During that process, we found that we really enjoyed working with each other. My dad is actually going to help with season 2 of my web series, “The Comedy Minute;” he’ll be busy writing sketches, primarily. We also discussed writing a book together, too. Honestly, I feel really lucky to be able to work so closely with my family.”

Jason will have a major role in “Russian Doll,” but there’s more to the film than just his pretty face. The movie will spotlight a lesbian sex scene, and have many characters that will satisfy every viewer’s appetites. There is Viola Ames (played by Gaffney’s sister, Melanie Brockmann), the lesbian cop, Aaron Richmond, a washed-up actor, and Darlene, a young woman who finds herself trapped in life.

Jason had a few things to comment on, regarding the sex scene. He said that he hopes the public will recognize Viola’s erotic dream with Faith for what it is – a crucial moment in Viola’s personal journey. “The couple meets almost two years after Viola’s wife’s death, and Viola believes she will be alone for the rest of her life. When she has the dream, she cannot deny her attraction to Faith, and is forced to confront the feelings of guilt she has about moving on with her life without her wife,” Jason said. “It really is just about the power of human sexuality and love, plain and simple,” he concluded.

“Russian Doll” will be fully funded by Kickstarter, and the campaign will launch in May 2015.
