Just yesterday you showed us your grey and wet
Premonitions of huddled colorless months loomed
Summer’s warm glow already a fading memory
So to wake to the world splashed with glorious color
The crisp cerulean sky and clinging auburn leaves
The corn stalks a golden field of sentinels; This is a Gift.
One more day!! My heart sings. One more day!
The bicycle has not migrated to storage quite yet
Autumn’s last gasp crunches under my tires.
The brisk but balmy southwest wind calls to riders
It carries the sharp tang of woodsmoke and burning leaves
It tugs playfully on the moorings of one lone boat yet to be stored
So we soak it up, and take a picture and strive to make it last
This glorious late autumn day that November has given us
A gift!
