Cover

The crack came on a Sunday,
slim, easily overlooked.
She wasn't one to fuss
over such slight details.

Summer shed its skin that year:
monsoon weather replacing
the familiar dry days.

Wallpaper peeled as
drops seeped in between
that coloured cover-sheet
and the bleached wall behind.

And though she'd stick it back,
and though it would stay stuck,
she always lacked the strength
to keep it there forever.
